WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE FOR YOU TODAY?
You might wonder why I have a photo of rugby balls, jerseys, field flags, etc. today, but this is what success looks like to me this morning.
One of my coaches is heading to Australia for a year and delivered his cache of treasure for safekeeping until the flag rugby season begins anew next year and another coach can take possession.
Almost 10 years ago I started a rugby club in my area, a region in which a rugby club had never before existed. The light of passion for the game had been ignited in my son and I wanted to help him to build upon his success. I’ve always been an entrepreneur and I took on the challenge as yet another entrepreneurial undertaking.
One of our local coaches likened the difficulty of starting a rugby club in hockey-obsessed Ontario to that of starting a hockey club in rugby-obsessed Ireland.
And yet, here we are, the Georgian Bay Titans RFC, thriving, growing and making a difference to the fabric of sports in this area.
It’s been a fantastic 10 years, lots of obstacles and difficulties along the way, as with any small business, but also immeasurable joy, learning and fun.
The club is on a solid footing. We have one of the most successful mini programs in the entire country, and, as one of my rugby colleagues said, we punch way above our weight class.
In other words, our success is belied by the fact we are based in a small community. We draw from over 40 smaller communities throughout our area in order to put our teams on the pitch in sufficient numbers.
So this is what success looks like to me today – a bunch of random rugby gear lying on my deck, looking to find a home for the winter.
What does success look like to you today? An unexpected phone call or email from a client? A pile of invoices marked paid? Or simply a feeling of knowing you have made a difference.
It’s all good.
