We are losing personal touch by sending emails, texts or Voice Mail messages rather than speaking to someone in person.
The art of good phone conversation is lost. Phones seldom ring anymore. Who still even has a landline?
Instead of a texting or an email daisy chain to solve a relatively minor problem, pick up the phone.
Learn good phone manners.
Make sure your staff has good phone manners.
It is surprising how many people have difficulty both answering a telephone respectfully and answering questions posed over the phone. Teach your staff how to do both so your customers feel welcome when they call rather than feeling the call is an intrusion.
Your customers are not in the habit of picking up the telephone any more than your employees, so when the phone actually does ring you can assume it’s important.
Learn to use the phone to your benefit and the relationships with your customers, hence your business, will benefit.
Pick up the phone, dammit.
